This is the way Lorri Davis told the storyof how they came to meet.

The winter of I was a single female who lived within New York, with a excellent job and a rental apartment located in Park Slope that I loved. I was a landscape architect for an architectural firm. We were working on these incredible work in Connecticut, the Hamptons and Connecticut. I was making a great pay and truly enjoying my job. One day in February my friend invited me to attend the New York premiere of this documentarycalled “Paradise lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills.” It was part of the MoMA New Directors/New Films program and I saw Damien’s long-haired mugshot in the commercial. I assumed it was an innocent girl. I thought, “I don’t want to watch a film about this girl who killed all these children.”

In the theater , when I watched Damien in the theater for the first time I felt a sense of kinship instantly. Growing in a similar world within West Virginia, I knew that something was wrong at every level: the society and the case, as well as the sentences. I was thinking, “There’s no way he would have been able to commit this crime.” Lorri Davis was quoted as saying, ” Lorri Davis stated

I thought about him often following the film. One week later I decided to write him a letter.

Then I efforts to be polite and then I admitted that I’d seen the film and it left a lasting impression on me. I asked if he required any assistance.

I was thinking about it, maybe he won’t reply.

A week later when my parents were in town I received the letter. We were leaving to the park, and it was within my letterbox. I put it into my bag, and carried it all day. In the evening, I tore it open. I was so shocked by the manner in which he responded. It was truly gracious. “From the beginning of this crisis I’ve believed there must be some reason behind all this,” he told me. This was the part that truly affected me. He did not write like a man who is on death row, but rather as an ordinary Southern gentleman.

We wrote letters over the course of a few months, long before “love” could be written. I believe that it was Damien who first wrote it but we both came to that point at the exact same at the same time. We just slid into love.

My work was beginning to slow down because my brain was elsewhere. I wrote letters throughout the day long. I’m extremely private, which is why I didn’t talk about it with anyone. I shared with a close friend, “Do you remember that documentary? I’ve reached out to the young man who was in the documentary.”Lorri Davis shared the documentary with me. Lorri Davis told me.

Damien and I spoke via telephone for the very first time around four months after the time we began writing. He called me from the out of the blue. I had seen his voice in the film however I was stunned to hear his real voice first. We continued to talk every day following that.

In the end, I was convinced that I had been living a double life. I didn’t inform my family members for many years. I did tell only a few close friends. No one efforts to convince me of it. People who know me well know that I’m quite strong-willed, and I’m able to discern my own thoughts.

I’ve have never felt the same way for anyone as I have for Damien. I’ve had relationships before but this was a completely different experience.– Lorri Davis said.
