Xbox One Controller Driver Won’t Install (Causes, Fixes)

Xbox suggests that Windows install Xbox controller drivers right away after you connect your device.

How to Install the Xbox Controller Driver

Windows may not automatically install controller driver drivers after connecting the controller.

It is possible that you have already tried these methods to install the driver controllers.

Be careful not to try new things and ensure you test every option before making a decision.

1. Driver CD/DVD

The Xbox One controller comes often with a CD/DVD that contains the driver.

Despite looking old-fashioned it can be used for downloading and installing Xbox controller drivers, especially for older Windows versions.

If your computer has an already installed CD drive, you can follow these steps:

  1. Insert the disc into the drive.
  2. To open older Windows versions of this PC or my Computer, double click on the CD/DVD icons.
  3. If the won’t start click on the .exeextension located in the CD directory.

2. Windows Update

Windows is easily tricked with a Windows update that installs the Xbox One Controller drivers.

Connect your controller to the PC via USB and follow these steps: Windows Update:

  1. Open the Setting app. Select the Security or update section.
