How can you access Windows Memory Diagnostics?

If you have access to the Operating System and Windows boots up normally, then try the Windows Memory Diagnostic. It’s preinstalled in some Windows versions.

  1. In the Windows search box, type “Windows Memory Diagnostic”, and click the app that appears in the results.
  2. A box will open once you click on it. The Windows Memory Diagnostic screen will be displayed and your computer will immediately restart. You won’t have access to your computer during the test, as it will continue for several minutes. A Progress bar and a Status section will appear. These sections inform you about any errors.
  3. After the test is complete, Windows will reboot automatically and the results will be displayed. Here’s how you can find the results if Windows fails to show them.
  4. Expand the Windows Logs Section from the left pane, and then click System.
  5. From the right pane click on Locate. Type “MemoryDiagnostic” in the box and then click on Next.
  6. You can see the test results at the bottom of this window.

You will need Windows on your computer if you don’t have Windows installed or your computer is unable to boot the OS because of an issue. To fix this, download the Windows Memory Diagnostic CD or flash drive.

  1. Download Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool on a computer that is working.
  2. Start the .exe file. Click on Accept and then Save CD Image To Disk.
  3. Save the Windiag.isoISO photo to your desktop, then hit OK for confirmation.

How can you access MemTest?

SoftPedia is the best place to find MemTest, since MemTest86 has largely replaced MemTest.

MemTest86 can be downloaded from its website.

Modern computers shouldn’t have any problems booting from USB flash drives.

If you want to run the utility on a CD/DVD you will need to download the v7.5 or earlier version.

These are the steps to run MemTest86

  1. Extract the file.
  2. You can insert a USB flash drive into your computer to back up the files. It will erase all data.
  3. You can now open the imageUSB.exefile you have extracted.
  4. After the window has opened, choose the USB drive you want to use in Step 1. Make sure Step 3 is set to memtest86_usb.imgfile. Then hit the Write Button.
  5. Once you have the USB bootable, it is time to boot the system.
  6. Select the Config option when you see the Memtest86 screen. There are a few details about your computer components, including RAM and CPU.
  7. Select Start Test. You will see two progress bars: The Test bar to show how far the current test is and the Passbar which indicates how complete the entire set of tests are.
